Happy October!!!
Time for cardi's, scarfs, sewing halloween costumes and lots and lots of candy!
October's usually a busy time of year for people of all sorts: students have midterms, parents have halloween parties and costumes to prepare for, fashionista's have fall shopping to do...everyone's plates are pretty full by time October's in full swing. And with a busy schedule often comes some stress. I don't know about you guys, but feeling overwhelmed doesn't exactly put me in the best state of mind to be productive and efficient. So, below i've listed a few things that i've used in the past that have helped me refocus, calm down, organize, and be HAPPY! It's impossible for us to help and care for others when we aren't caring for ourselves!
1. To Do Lists: probably the simplest form of organization, but one of the most helpful. There's nothing like that feeling you get after you've crossed something big off of your list, to give you a boost of energy and confidence. Mine often include homework assignments, errands, emails to send, and even important conversations to have.
2. A Legit Happiness Plan: In my line of work (Social Work), we encourage our clients to create safety plans for themselves. These plans are just a short list of activities or thoughts that provoke positive feelings and feelings of safety (whether it be mental or physical safety), to get them back into a good space. Our "Happiness Plan" can be used when we're feeling down, vulnerable, or just in need of a relaxing time. Mine includes, listening to a lottttt of Sade, shopping if my budget permits it, meditation, and thoughts of my adorable little puppy.
3. Support Net: Everyone needs a shoulder to cry on every once in a while, thus a support net is more than necessary to maintain a joyous and fluid lifestyle. This doesn't mean you need dozens of friends, it means you need a few key people who will lend a good ear (and solid advice if need be) at the time of your difficulties. These people can include spouses, family members, friends, or even the sweet salesperson at Barney's if you're desperate!
These are just a few of the quick remedies to a stressful day that have helped me along the way. What are some of yours? Be sure to explore what works for you, and create your own customized Happiness Plan because an unhappy fashionista is just not what the world needs right now. :*
